The enduring rivalry between the super models Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks seems to pop up its ugly now and then. Gossips about of a rift between the ex-modeling duo have been hanging in the air for over ten years since Tyra stepped on the scene to share the stardom, fame and fortune that was once dominated by Naomi as the most successful black model in the industry. Being the two most famous African Americas Victoria secret’s top models of their era, one would have expected a more mutual beneficial relationship that would see them inspire a generation of black models not only in America but also in Africa. Although they always play cool portraying no such cold war exist, critics and fans are not fully connived about that the two a far from the seven dark sides of ‘sisterhood’- Betrayal, Manipulation, Judgment, Gossip, Competition, Resentment, & Envy; despite addressing the supposed feud on a 2005 episode of “The Tyra Banks Show,”, both women are constantly dogged by questions regarding the other.
The new Campbell’s modeling competition TV show, “The Face,” has sparked up interest in their unconvincing relationship, and on Sunday’s episode, Campbell made a huge attempt to lay the suspicion to rest.
According to msn entertainment, when asked by a caller if “The Face” employed ex-”America’s Next Top Model” judge Nigel Barker simply to stick it to Banks, Campbell said that Barker was hired because he was available and possessed knowledge of how reality TV works.
Campbell went on to defend her “good friendship” with Banks and slam the people who are constantly trying to pit them against one another.
In her own words Campbell said “It does irk me that two women of color have to be pitted against each other,” “You can have more than one woman of color in a fashion show. Unfortunately, back then, you could only have one, so the other felt … put out.” She added, “I’m very proud of Tyra and what she’s done with ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ I’m proud of her, I’m proud to know her.”
Campbell went on to prove her love for Banks by choosing to marry the “ANTM” host in a game of Kill, F—, Marry, although she did not hesitate to “kill” Heidi Klum, so perhaps we’ve been focusing on the wrong feud all these years?
